Dr. Valley
DMD, MPH, MS Specialist in Orthodontics for children and adults
Dr. Maureen Valley brings over 25 years of experience as
a specialist in orthodontic treatment and education
Dr. Valley completed her undergraduate studies in Biology at the University of California, Santa Barbara with high honors. She then graduated from Harvard School of Dental Medicine and Harvard School of Public Health with a Doctorate in Dental Medicine (cum laude) and a Masters of Public Health. She received additional post-graduate education from Northwestern University School of Dentistry and earned a Master’s of Science degree and Certificate in Orthodontics.
Dr. Valley has dedicated her professional life to a dual career in education and private practice, specializing in orthodontics for children, teens and adults. From 1994 to 1998, she practiced orthodontics in Boston, MA and was a Clinical Instructor at Harvard University School of Dentistry. From 1998 to the present, she has practiced orthodontics in Marin County and has been Associate Professor and Director of the Postgraduate Orthodontic Clinic at the University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry in San Francisco.
Dr. Valley's philosophy includes giving attention to not just the teeth and bite, but also the face and aging process for a healthy, beautiful, balanced and life-long result. With children, she uses a non-extraction/expansion approach with initiation of early treatment and growth modification when indicated. With adults and teens, she uses the highest quality appliances and diagnostics such as Damon brackets, Nasa-developed wires, Invisalign and 3D Imaging.
Dr. Valley was a pioneer with Invisalign, as she was one of the first orthodontists in the United States to treat patients with this new method. She has been an educational consultant to Align Technology, Inc., has lectured nationally to doctors and university residents on the subject, and has instructed and certified nearly 3000 dentists and orthodontists on the technique.
Dr. Valley is passionate about community service on a local and international level. In her community, she is the coordinator of Marin County’s “Adopt-a-School” program where dentists go to the elementary schools to provide free dental screenings and education. She is also a long-standing sponsoring business partner of the Miller Creek School District Children’s Fund. Dr. Valley has been an active member of Rotaplast International, a non-profit humanitarian organization providing free reconstructive surgery and treatment to those with cleft lip and palate and related anomalies in developing countries. In addition, Dr. Valley founded 1World 1Tribe, a nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing and creating opportunities for better oral health, education, economic empowerment and youth enrichment in critically underserved areas in Kenya, Myanmar and Albania.
