Supporting Our Global Community

Supporting Our Global Community

Dr. Valley and her team are passionate about reaching out to the global community and for several years have been involved in programs around in different countries.  A few causes near and dear to their hearts include:

Loitikotok Oral Health and Nutrition Project

In 2014, Dr. Valley spear-headed an oral health and nutrition project in Loitokitok District, in southern Kenya.  She worked in collaboration with the Mr. Samson Saigilu, a public health officer with the Ministry of Health, Kenya.  Together, they led a successful team of volunteers to several of Kenya's poorest and most remote areas, where dental care is nonexistant.  The team collected baseline data for research and future programs, distributed toothbrushes and toothpaste, and most importantly...educated a few thousand children and adults on the importance of good oral health.

Kenya Smiles

Dr. Valley is has been a Vocational Training Team member of Kenya Smiles, a project of the Rotary Districts 5160 / 9200 / 9212 / 6150.  Kenya Smiles improves the oral health of children in Kenya by sustainable dental preventative care programs.

Rotaplast International

Rotaplast International is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) humanitarian organization providing free reconstructive operations and treatment for children in need worldwide.  Dr. Valley has participated as a member of the Rotaplast team in missions to Vietnam, Venezuela and Nepal.

Camp No Name (Kampi Pa Emer)

Camp No Name (Kampi Pa Emer) in Librazhd, Albania was founded in 2008 by Alba, our orthodontic assistant, and her husband, Joey, a past Peace Corps volunteer.  The camp is open at no cost to boys and girls from the Albanian and Romanian communities.  The camp welcomes these children to come together to play, discover and learn, despite the powerful stereotypes that divide them.  Every year, Alba and Joey return to Albania to meet the ever growing group of children to sing, play, and build in a space where skin color, and cultural/social backgrounds do not matter.

The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust

Valley Orthodontics has adopted two orphaned elephants at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Nairobi, Kenya.  The David Sheldrick Trust is today the most successful orphan elephant rescue and rehabilitation program in the world and one of the pioneering conservation organizations for wildlife habitat protection in East Africa.

Dr. Valley had the opportunity to visit our adopted elephants this year when she and her colleagues were in Kenya during their humanitarian dental mission.
